A healthy dog is a happy dog. It is our responsibility as dog owners to see to the health of our good friends, and your dog’s happiness is tied to his health. When you are feeling ill are you very happy? I thought not. Our dogs are the same, so if you want a happy pooch keeping the condition of his health first is paramount.

Your dog’s happiness is tied to his health

What you feed your dog is going to directly contribute to his or her health. These are so many brands of dry and canned food available for dogs selecting the best one for your dog can be a bit confusing. I look at it this way – I can buy the cheapest food and pay higher vet bills because my dogs are not getting essential nutrients to keep them healthy, thus more visits to the vet. Or I can buy the best dog food available, have happy and healthier dogs, and save money because I am not at the vet as often. Unless you are dealing with a very old dog that has bad teeth, and or digestive issues, stick to dry dog foods as they help keep your dog’s teeth clean and the dogs stool will be firmer. This is important for keeping his area of the yard clean and as germ free as possible. Your dog’s happiness is tied to his health starting with what you feed him so buy the best food you can and use a good vitamin supplement as well. If you’re not sure, check with your vet for recommendations (keep in mind they’re going to try to sell you on the brand they stock and sell!!).

All dogs need daily exercise to work their muscles and just get out of the house for a change in environment. Do you feel good being cooped up all day inside? Probably not and your dog feels the same so taking walks of at least 30 minutes should be part of your dog’s daily routine.

A dog’s is tied to his health in another way some do not consider. This is keeping him well groomed by regular brushing, bathing, toe nails trimmed, ears clean, and treatments for fleas and ticks. If you have ever watched a dog constantly scratching at fleas you know he is not a happy pooch. Eliminating fleas and ticks is vital to keeping the dog healthy, as well as controlling the chance of these pests invading your home.

When you bring a dog into your life you also become responsible for the fact the dog’s happiness is tied to his health. Treat them well and you will be rewarded with a loyal companion for many years.
