RECALL ALERT: AvoDerm Dog Food Recalled Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

Breeder’s Choice, the manufacturer of AvoDerm premium dry dog food has issued a recall due to possible salmonella contamination. AvoDerm states that the product was recalled before leaving distribution centers and has not reached retail shelves. However, anyone feeding AvoDerm Natural Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Adult Dog Formula should be informed of this recall and the possible side effects of salmonella poisoning.

Salmonella can affect both the dog eating the food and any humans that handle it. If your dog has been infected, he may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets may have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.

Human salmonella poisoning symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. However, salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms.

The following statement was released by AvoDerm regarding this important recall.

Question: I’ve heard that you are recalling AvoDerm products. What do I need to know?

We discovered during our quality testing that a singular, isolated manufacturing batch of AvoDerm Natural Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Adult Dog Formula (26 lb. bag only) would be required for recall due to possible contamination with Salmonella. These suspected products are identified by “Best by” dates on the suspected products are 28 Aug 2013, 29 Aug 2013, and 30 Aug 2013. As a result of the quality inspection, we were able to immediately contain the impacted product at distribution centers to prevent it from being delivered to retail outlets.

Question: I’ve purchased other AvoDerm products. Could they be contaminated too?

The presence of Salmonella contamination has not been found during our ongoing product testing program for the AvoDerm and Breeder’s Choice lines.

Question: I have a bag of AvoDerm Natural Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Adult Dog Formula, is it possibly contaminated?

The AvoDerm Natural Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Adult Dog Formula in 26 lb. bags that has been recalled due to possible contamination was contained at the distribution level and was prevented from being distributed to retail stores.
