Dogsbutter brand peanut butter for dogs has joined over 70 other peanut butter brands in a voluntary recall due to possible salmonella contamination. The dog treat is the only pet product involved in the recall. New to the pet treat market, Dogsbutter was awarded a “Best New Product for 2012” at the SuperZoo pet products show earlier this month.
Dog for Dog asserts that none of their products have tested positive for salmonella, but that they are joining the voluntary recall as a precaution. Dogsbutter is recalling the following: Dogsbutter RUC with Flax PB in 16-ounce jars with UPC code 003050 and “Best-If-Used-By” dates between May 1, 2013 and September 24, 2013

Limited, Voluntary Recall Announcement
DOG for DOG announces a Limited, Voluntary Recall of it DOGSBUTTER, All Natural Peanut Butter Dog Treats in concert with approximately 70 other brands issuing Voluntary Recalls in the Peanut Butter Category due to Possible Health Risk.
Key Contact: Rocky Keever, Chief Executive Officer, DOG for DOG, LLC. – 424-229-1411
Today, DOG for DOG announced a limited, voluntary recall of its DOG for DOG, All Natural, Jarred Peanut Butter Treat for Dogs sold under the DOGSBUTTER Brand. Products with manufacturing dates of May 1, 2012 through September 24, 2012 are affected. These products may be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and pets. Healthy people and pets infected with Salmonella can experience fever, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection of Salmonella can get into the blood stream creating more severe outcomes.
The recall has been initiated today after learning that 29 people have reported Salmonella Bredeney PFGE matching illnesses over 18 states during the period of June through September, 2012 according to a report issued late on September 22, 2012 by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). DOG for DOG works with Sunland Industries, a regional producer of premium quality peanut butter products and brands distributed under 70+ brands and through retailers such as Trader Joe’s and Target to produce DOGSBUTTER.
This limited Recall is voluntary and NO DOGS have been reported affected, nor have any DOGSBUTTER samples tested positive for Salmonella.
“While NO DOGSBUTTER products have tested positive for Salmonella, our number one focus is ensuring the health, safety and well-being of Dogs. While the FDA, CDC and State agencies investigate the cause of reported illness, we are taking voluntary steps to ensure the safety of our four legged family members. We have worked closely in developing DOGSBUTTER and produce it in only the highest quality, human grade facilities with quality testing to ensure quality for pets. When there is a question, we want to be proactive and protective of the families who trust in our brand and love their pets as much as we do. If you have purchased one of these products, please dispose of it, or return it to your local retail pet center for a full refund. Retailers should return the DOGSBUTTER to the distributor for a full credit”.
Statement of Rocky Keever, Chief Executive Officer of Dog for DOG, LLC.
The limited Recall does NOT include DOGSBAR products.
