If the dog treats that are available in market are causing infection then the best solution is home made treats. There are a lot of easy home made recipes that can be cooked at home with natural products. One example is pumpkin treats and my dog like sit very much and this is gluten free also.

I have a big 10 mo. old pup, that I am trying desperately to break from chewing on things. I have been having luck by giving him chews and rawhides and such to keep him busy, but I’m having trouble now finding any that are safe. Anyone have any ideas?

You need to chew TOYS. Not treats. Get kongs, they are a little expensive but VERY durable. I have two kongs for my teething siberian husky, so trust me, I know what you are going through. Get a kong, put literally (almost) anything you want in it, freeze it over night, and let your pup go at it!! The rubber is also wonderful for them to just chomp on. I use kongs for my adult dog too, they will never let you down. Look on the Internet what some of the best chew toys are. I bought a plastic water bottle cover with a squeaker at the end and that works amazing too. They get to chew on the plastic, but it won’t hurt their teeth! You can also make your own toys. I soak an old towel, put it in the freezer over night, and the next day Sheba has this frozen toy that she can chomp on and that will sooth her gums.

I agree with the Kong idea. They are indestructible and you can stuff the hole with peanut butter or cheese. They need something to chew so Kongs are a good idea. I smear Bitter Apple lotion on the wooden rungs of my chairs and any wood that I don’t want my puppies to chew. The lotion is invisible and doesn’t harm wood surfaces. It tastes nasty to dogs so they learn to leave that object alone. You can find Bitter Apple at any pet store. It works great!
