In a letter to consumers, the Robert Abady Dog Food Company, Ltd., announced a voluntary recall of 2 different types of their frozen dog food due to a positive test for Salmonella.

The letter reads:

Dear Abady Users,

After so many years of making frozen foods we have to give you the bad news that we have voluntarily recalled two of our limited specialty products:

1.  Abady Frozen High Stress/High Performance Dog Food 3 lbs
2.  Abady Frozen Growth Formula for Puppies of the Large & Giant Breed 3 lbs.

The decision was made due to a positive salmonella test by the FDA.  At this time we are removing the products from the market place.

Our first priority is to produce foods with great care and keeping in mind the safety of pets and their owners.  We have many safety measures in place, and continually search for the best technologies and procedures to ensure product safety.

When handling these raw frozen pet foods please make sure to wash hands thoroughly after handling the product.

Please contact us at 845-473-1900 or 877-99ABADY with any question that you have.

Thank You
The Robert Abady Dog and Cat Food Company

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

Consumers who have purchased the specific pet foods listed should contact Abady Dog Food Company at the phone number above for directions to obtain a refund.
