While he helped the Dallas Cowboys win the Super Bowl and led his Oklahoma Sooners to 3 national titles, perhaps former NFL coach, Barry Switzer’s greatest contribution is his dedication to animal rescue and his love for dogs.
A few days ago, Coach Switzer spotted a Rottweiler puppy sitting alone in a sweltering hot van. Though the windows were down, the dog-loving coach still worried about his safety. He took the puppy, named “Sassy,” from the van, found the owners, and bought the puppy from them on the spot.
Them, Switzer took the adorable dog to the veterinarian for a full check-up.
“I told the doc. I want rabies shots, check for worms, everything,” Switzer told Oklahoma City’s NewsChannel 4. “They even clipped the toenails so it was a pedicure for her. She went to the spa.”
Switzer took the little girl home, introduced her to his own pack of rescued pups, renamed her “Stella,” and set out to find her a new forever home.
Now, little Stella is at home with the perfect new family, one that lost their home and belongings in the recent Moore, Oklahoma tornado, who also happened to be celebrating their wedding anniversary! Stella and her new family will have the perfect start to a new life together.
You may also recall last year, the Hall of Fame-er offered a massive reward to anyone that could help locate and convict an animal abuser. What an amazing human being! The world could use a few more Barry Switzers!

I posted this story to my Facebook page because we need more people like this coach. I have a question and this is it (as posted):How stupid does a person have to be to leave an animal in a car and not really know that they are killing that innocent creature. Again, I ask, how stupid does one have to be. Thank God for people who step up and rescue like this coach. He is awesome.
Thank you Coach for stepping up, for being aware, and for being the hero you are.
