Iams Euk
Several brands and flavors (not just those pictured above) of Iams and Eukanuba dry dog foods have been recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Multiple brands and flavors of both Iams and Eukanuba brand dry dog and cat foods were voluntarily recalled by the Procter & Gamble Company due to possible contamination with Salmonella.

Please see the list below for specific brands and flavors affected by this massive recall action. Several dry cat foods were also named in the recall and can be viewed at the link below.

The following information was announced on Wednesday night via a Proctor & Gamble press release:

The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) has voluntarily recalled specific lots of dry pet food because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. These lots were distributed in the United States and represent roughly one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of annual production. No Salmonella-related illnesses have been reported to date in association with these product lots.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

This issue is limited to the specific dry pet food lot codes listed below. This affects roughly one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of total annual production. The affected product was distributed to select retailers across the United States. These products were made during a 10-day window at a single manufacturing site. P&G’s routine testing determined that some products made during this timeframe have the potential for Salmonella contamination. As a precautionary measure, P&G is recalling the potentially impacted products made during this timeframe. No other dry dog food, dry cat food, dog or cat canned wet food, biscuits/treats or supplements are affected by this announcement.

P&G is retrieving these products as a precautionary measure. Consumers who purchased a product listed below should stop using the product and discard it and contact P&G toll-free at 800-208-0172 (Monday – Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM ET), or via website at www.iams.com or www.eukanuba.com. Media Contact: Jason Taylor, 513-622-1111.

I find it humorous to read the comments associated with this recall. Half of you can’t write and the other half can’t read.

If you don’t see your product on the list, guess what? YOU’RE FINE. And obviously you missed the part where IAMS specifically states that no illnesses have been reported as of yet.

Oh, and for you people freaking out about contaminated foods. You seriously want to bring CHINA into this? Give me a break. In the giant picture, the United States has EXCELLENT standards. Things do happen and its RARELY malicious or negligent like it is in other countries.

I have been a loyal IAMS buyer for 10 years. I will continue to be one. I have NEVER had a problem with the food.

Here’s a tip for those who haven’t figured it out: Never give your dog human food…EVER.

The bag I bought was not on the list. I bought it on September 19 – it had same expiry date as many on the list, was called Iams Proactive Health Mature Adult (the Proactive Health Large Breed Mature Adult was on the list) – the only difference being the words Large Breed, and the UPC codes were identical except for the last 2 numbers. My healthy, lively, beloved dog ate 3 meals from a freshly opened bag and became violently ill. Four days later, and $2500.00 poorer from vet bills, my dog is dead. I will be testing this food, and am furious that this recall was not issued in Canada (where I live), as the bag I purchased clearly states: imported by P&G, Cincinnati, Ohio – and is marked a product of the USA. Should it test positive for salmonella or any other infectious bacteria, I will take legal action and have consulted a lawyer already. This company must suffer consequences for their horrific and inhumane disregard for the lives and wellbeing of society’s most innocent and helpless victims. DISTGUSTING
You DAVID are an ignorant FOOL and probably work for Iams. BE QUIET and stop the insults. I really hope you don`t have pets because if you do, they are in danger. By the way, far more embarrassing than the inability to use spell check, is the inability to recognize a LAWYERED-UP Statement, issued by a company in the midst of a huge product recall. Have you heard of the word LIABILITY…LOOK IT UP and educate yourself. Iams will never admit to any related deaths before the matter is litigated, and if and when a lawsuit – class-action or otherwise, arises, they will most definitely offer a settlement in the hopes of avoiding all of the negative press and legal costs. Your lack of awareness is quite scary…..

I purchased Eukanuba Small breed puppy a few days ago. These barcode numbers and dates are so similar. I breed and show Yorkies and have generally about 30. Can u tell me if this sack is ok to feed my babies. 19014010509 and the date is 19Sept14. The other sacks for adults were different enough that I felt it was safe enough to use.

My grand dog eats IAMS Pro Active Health Lamb and Rice for dogs one and older. It is in a red bag. Is this on recall? I don’t see it on the list, he has already eaten 1/2 of the bag and is ok.

My dog was infected when first recall was issued by another company. We switched to IAMS so far she is doing better. My son was the one who discovered the wormy insects when he went to feed her from the bag that was almost half full, there was evidenced of infestation in the corners of the ceiling as well. My dog was the one who alerted us by spitting out the food after she had already ingested some.

I am so so so sorry you lost your dog. I had a beloved Schipperke who was in perfect health. Her blood work was perfect January 2013. I fed her Iams and i never saw the recall. In the month on November 2013 i took her to the vet she was acting lethargic, soft pooping constantly, pudding diarrhea, stopped eating. She was not herself at all. She always played like a puppy. The vet said she had a swollen anus gland he popped it and prescribed Baytril for 10 days. I returned to the vet 2 days after she finished the Baytril for follow up. The vet ran blood work and said he would call me tomorrow. Well he did. He informed me her blood work was off the charts!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She had an infection in every organ of her body and i had 24 hours left with her. She died the 4 am that morning in my arms. My Schipperke was 16 years old. The only time she was sick in all 16 years was in 2010 when i had to rush her to the vet ((((Iams had a recall surprise )))) vet had to hook her up to IV for 7 hours. Other than that she was never ever sick a day in her life until this last recall which i missed. I am so sorry for everyone who has lost a pet. She did nt stand a chance because of her age.

I have a really fussy dog when it comes to dry food and was recently going to change him over to Ekanuba.Glad I didn’t.Used in past with other dogs and never had a problem.Am only buying foods that say made in the USA.You say your food is made here, then why is it being contaminated? Is it because of how other animals are fed because I know there are by products in your food. With all the dry foods on the market, even the ones made in the USA, I am afraid now to feed my dog any of it!!!Even with real people food such as chicken and red meat,I am reading a book called “EAT to LIVE” by Joel Fuhrman,MD, and afraid to just give my dogs a mush made with that. The book would explain why. What is going on,and why is the food for dogs made in the USA being contaminated? I need an answer please. My email is [email protected] Thank you. Hope this problem is resolved quickly and there are no deaths caused from!
