Description
The Miniature Pinscher, also referred to as the Min Pin, is a trendy breed of tiny dog that originated in Germany. The breed belongs to the Toy dog family which is adored for their diminutive size, and sweet expression. Just like any other breed in the Toy group, Min Pins also represent sheer charm. The breed has been developed for companionship. Their coat is smooth, and may come in numerous color combinations such as black paired with rust markings, stag red, or chocolate along with tan red shade.
Height and Weight
The male members of the Min Pin breed normally stand about 10 to 12 in, and weigh around 8 to 10 lbs. Bitches, on the other hand, are relatively smaller. Their height is usually 10 to 11 in measured at the withers, and their weight is about 8 to 9 lbs.
Temperament
Miniature Pinschers are generally hardy little pets who tend to be proud and brave. They are usually loyal to their owners, alert, spirited, and hyperactive. Min Pins are also known to be intelligent, quick to learn, and lively. They get along well with children and other animals provided that they have been properly led by their owners. Min Pins are sweet, though has the tendency to believe that he or she is the pack leader of humans. Extensive socialization training has to be carried out to keep the dog from becoming headstrong and demanding. With rules and boundaries established well by its true pack leader- the owner himself, the breed makes a wonderful family pet.
Grooming
The smooth coat of Min Pins is easy to groom. Comb, brush, and shampoo their short hair only when needed. Wipe their coat using a warm damp towel to remove their loose hair. Min Pins are average shedders.
Health Concerns
Miniature Pinschers are a generally healthy breed. They are sturdy pets that only get to suffer a few health issues such as cataracts, thyroid problems, and epilepsy. Though robust, the breed still has to undergo regular knee and eye check-ups. Min Pins can live for as long as 12 to 14 years.
Best Environment
Miniature Pinschers are capable of thriving well in apartment-living. The breed is extremely active indoors, and will do just fine for dwellings with no yard space. Nonetheless, Min Pins have to be always kept away from the cold. In addition, these cute little fellows require daily walks. Play will also be necessary to make up for their exercise needs. To keep the breed form developing behavior problems, walks performed on a daily basis have to be done. A good romp in a secure open place will also be great for them. Make sure that a high fenced yard is provided to prevent them from exploring or escaping away.
