A Charleston, South Carolina gastroenterologist has been charged with 9 counts of ill treatment of animals and one count of animal torture after loading nine Cavalier King Charles Spaniels into 5 dog carriers and leaving them in the back of his SUV while he went to work at the East Cooper Medical Center on Monday.

According to WCBD-TV, Bickerstaff drove to the Mount Pleasant Emergency Veterinarian upon discovering the dog deaths. All 9 dogs, including his own dog, Butler, suffered heat exhaustion and died while loaded inside carriers with no food or water, in the back of Bickerstaff’s Ford Explorer for about three hours.

Temperatures ranged from 73 to 84 degrees, with a heat index of 90+. Temperatures inside a vehicle can quickly soar much higher.

Bond for the 64-year old doctor has been set at $90,000.

As he’s a gastroenterologist, I have a GREAT idea for his punishment. It involves a stick of dynamite placed in an area of his practice and you can guess the rest. The next time I see a dog in a car on a hot day, the bastard is losing a window and a dog.
