When Brandon Mason arrived at his Tomball, Texas home on Monday night, he wasn’t greeted at the back door by his best friend, Davey, an 11-month old Boxer, like he always was. He checked the fenced in backyard. Davey was nowhere to be found and the gate on the side of the house was open.
After more than 4 hours of searching for his dog, Mason still had not found him.
Little did he know, Davey had been stolen from his yard and, for reasons unknown, had been later tossed from a moving vehicle and was lying in the road just behind his subdivision with a broken leg.
Ashley Cozart was driving home from work that night when she and another woman saw what happened and stopped to help the injured dog.
“We knew he was hurt when he wouldn’t come to us and wouldn’t try to move, and he was shivering violently. We knew he was hurt pretty bad, and we were worried about him going into shock,” Cozart explained to Click2Houston.
They called the SPCA and someone came to pick up the injured dog. Meanwhile, Cozart snapped a photo and described the dog and her location on Tomball Facebook page called Beg, Barter, Buy, and Sale.
At the same time, Mason was posting a photo of his missing dog to his own Facebook page.
Both posts were shared and passed around until eventually someone made the connection – all within just a few hours of his disappearance!
“Honestly I couldn’t believe it when I got the Facebook comment from the original post I posted. She sent a picture, a screenshot of a post that the person who found him put on a different website, and asked ‘Is this your dog?’ and I said yes it was,” Mason explained.
Davey underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair his broken tibia. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Now, Tomball Police are looking for the person who stole Davey from Mason’s backyard and then tossed him from a moving vehicle, a dark colored, 4-door work truck.
