“I don’t know how I’m going to sleep tonight,” eyewitness Bill Spencer told KPRC-TV in Houston. “I’m going to hear the sound of those bullets, that dog crying, and see all of that blood gushing out of that poor little animal.”
That same witness described the horrific scene that unfolded at a Houston dog park, when an armed man pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds at close range, striking a young Staffordshire Bull Terrier that was happily playing at the park. Witnesses described 2-year old Diesel as a playful, energetic dog that was simply wrestling with the shooter’s dog.
Although the shooter was detained by Harris County Sheriff’s deputies, he was later released and no charges were filed.
“His dog was not in danger…he was not in danger. I don’t understand how they are not pressing charges. I witnessed everything. No one was in danger.” the witness explained.
Diesel was immediately rushed to the nearby VCA Animal Emergency Hospital where he was treated for a shattered front leg and two gunshots to the back. He did not survive.
