A Marrietta, Georgia girl is safe and with her family, thanks to the quick actions of her dog early yesterday morning.

The girl had just walked her younger sisters to their nearby elementary school when a man drove past her and stopped his truck. Although the girl just kept walking, the man jumped out of the truck and grabbed her by the wrist. That’s when her dog, a 4-year old Rat Terrier, became her hero and bit the would-be abductor on the ankle, causing him to run off.

“Who knows what would have happened if the dog hadn’t reacted to that sudden movement by the suspect as he actually grabbed the young lady by the wrist,” Sgt. Dana Pierce with the Cobb County Police Department told WSB-TV.

Police and neighbors, worried for the hundreds of children that walk the residential area just one block away from the elementary school, are desperate to find the suspect. He is described as a middle-aged black male, about 5’10”, with an average build. He was last seen driving a newer model white truck with scratches on the side and rear.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Jones, the girl’s mother, is very thankful for her little dog. “My hero. My daughter’s hero,” she said, holding him close.
