It was reminiscent of a scene straight out of a Hollywood movie. As a White House, Tennessee home became engulfed in flames, a mysterious man driving a gray Mustang pulls up, tells a neighbor, “I do this for a living,” runs inside the blazing home and returns moments later, holding the family dog in his arms, just seconds before the roof collapses. Then, just as quickly as he arrived, the mysterious, unknown hero is gone.
The homeowners were away on vacation when the fire broke out. And, while their home is a total loss, at least they’ll be greeted by their dog when they return – all thanks to a mysterious hero.
UPDATE! The unidentified hero has been identified as 20-year veteran of the Nashville Fire Department, Tim Tawater, who lives near the home that caught fire.
Tim went into the house, concerned that there were people inside first. And, after clearing the house to make sure no one was trapped, he heard the homeowners’ dog, a 1-year old Bouvier named Sampson, barking.
“Around here dogs are family,” Tawater explained to Newschannel 5 in Nashville. “I went back in and coaxed him out. I had to cover his head so he wouldn’t bite me. He was a little upset.”
Also inside the home were the family’s 3 cats. Two have since been found, one is still missing.
Tawater, however, doesn’t consider himself a hero. “To me the heroes are the volunteers who show up to put the fire out and don’t get paid to do it,” he explained.
