A St. Louis Metropolitan Police officer drew his gun and shot at a dog inside a Missouri home yesterday, but missed and shot the dog’s owner instead.
Officers and Division of Family Service (DSF) workers were inside the home, where a double homicide had occurred the night before, attempting to remove a 1-year old child from the residence when the family’s dog reportedly jumped over a waist-high barricade and ran toward the officers.
One officer, fearing an attack, fired his gun at the dog, but missed, striking the dog’s owner, a 42-year old woman, in the leg as she tried to contain him.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, police say the woman’s injury is minor and the dog was taken by animal control.
