Northern Guilford High School sophomore Harry Hulse got a pleasant surprise on picture day when photographers asked to take a photo of his service dog, Taffy, too!
Fifteen year old Harry is an insulin-dependent diabetic who relies on Taffy to alert him of changes in his blood sugar.
“My blood sugar is very unstable,” Harry, who uses an insulin pump to help regulate his levels, explained to King5. “He’ll alert me when that happens by pawing me on my leg or scratching me.”
When Harry first met Taffy, named after the sweet sugary treat as a play on Harry’s diabetes, he was worried about how his life would change always having a service dog by his side. But today, the pair are the best of friends – and Taffy’s already potentially saved Harry’s life a few times.
Since Taffy joins Harry at school every day, it’s only natural that the adorable hardworking dog be featured in the yearbook, too!
