An officer with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department went above and beyond the call of duty when, during a routine traffic stop, noticed a malnourished dog standing in the front yard of a nearby home.
The dog wasn’t wearing a collar or ID tags and the homeowner claimed he did not belong to them. So the officer brought her into his police cruiser and held the malnourished dog on his lap while his partner drove to a nearby veterinary hospital.
Several officers with the IMPD have already expressed an interest in giving her a loving forever home if an owner does not step forward.

Thank you to this police officer. This was a kind thing to do. The dog should not be returned to the owner even if they are located. They were not caring for the dog and are not proper owners. I hope one of the officers give her a great home!

If the dog turns out to have been a missing pet, he could be malnourished from being out on his own for too long… not necessarily the fault of his owners. It’s important to not jump to conclusions. What if it were your dog? You would want someone to contact you, yes?
