A Virginia family walked into what looked like a scene from a horror movie filmed inside their home to discover their dog had attacked an intruder, thwarting a would-be burglary.

Dog Attacked Intruder

The Murrin family said there have been several break-ins in their Chesterfield County, Virginia neighborhood. Arriving home Thursday evening, they discovered that they, too, had been the victims of a break-in.

But their story was quite different than that of their neighbors – and it’s all thanks to the family dog, a German shepherd named Oden.

When they arrived home, everything seemed normal. The door was closed, nothing appeared out of the ordinary.

Until they saw spots of blood on the carpet.

They followed a trail of blood up the stairs and to the second floor where they found a scene straight out of a horror film.

Blood spattered the floors, walls, and doors throughout the second-story of the home. Apparently, someone had broken-in, not knowing the Murrin’s beloved family dog was inside. And Oden was, apparently, not having any of it.

“My dog, he’s a pretty big dog, it’s a larger German shepherd,” owner Tristan Murrin told KRON.

Murrin said Oden has never been aggressive before. The family’s home videos show the friendly dog laying down and playing with a young child.

“He plays with the kids, the cul-de-sac knows him. They know him as big dog, the community loves him, the kids come up to him and want to touch him and play with him,” Murrin explained further.

But, Murrin says, Oden must have known Thursday’s visitors had no business being there.

“I think the dog did its job. He knew that someone was not supposed to be in my house and no one was home and he knows that he wasn’t supposed to be in there and he was doing something that he wasn’t supposed to be doing and so he knew to act upon it.”

Tristan is grateful that his dog was not hurt and, thanks to Oden, nothing was stolen from the Murrin’s home.

The family now hope that by sharing their story, the intruder will be caught. Based on the amount of blood spatter around the home, they suspect the burglar was in serious need of medical attention after the attack.

Police investigated the scene but, so far, have no leads.
