A Golden retriever was named an Honorary Narcotics Detection K-9 after the family dog used his exceptional sense of smell to sniff out and dig up $85,000 worth of black tar heroin from his Oregon backyard!
When 18-month old Golden Retriever, Kenyon, dug up an unusual capsule from his Oregon family’s backyard, his family were excited!
Thinking their pup had uncovered a buried time capsule, they eagerly opened the sealed pipe expecting mementos from the past… what they uncovered instead would gain the attention of local police.
Kenyon had located and dug up more than 15 ounces, or approximately $85,000 worth, of black tar heroin! The family immediately contacted the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office who praised Kenyon for his find.
Sheriff Tim Svenson said, “opioid addiction and overdose deaths are on the rise and with the help of Kenyon this large quantity of heroin is removed from our community.”
Sheriff Svenson even presented Kenyon with an official Yamhill County K-9 citation ribbon and named him an honorary narcotics K-9 for life.
So, the next time your dog persistently paws at a patch of your garden, you might want to let him keep digging – you never know what he’ll find!
