Amidst the devastation left behind as wildfires continue to ravage much of California, one Santa Rosa family were overwhelmed with joy when they found their dog had survived the fire that completely destroyed their home.
When a Santa Rosa family awoke to find that the devastating California wildfire surrounded their home and vineyard in flames, they had mere seconds to get out.
In the chaos of trying to escape, their dog, a Bernese Mountain Dog named Izzy, ran off. With no time to chase her without risking their own lives, the family made the excruciatingly painful decision to leave her.
Driving through walls of flames and across a burning bridge to find safety, the family never stopped worrying about Izzy, wondering if she’d managed to escape.
Turned away by police when they tried to return for her, Jack Weaver and his brother-in-law Patrick Widen hiked nearly 3 miles over torched ground past still-smoking structures to return to the home to find Izzy.
“The anticipation is killing me,” Jack can be heard saying in a video clip uploaded to Facebook by Beckyjean Widen, Jack’s sister. Out of breath from the miles of hiking, when the men reached the home they began calling for Izzy, clapping and whistling, hopeful that she’d survived.

Despite being lost in the Tubbs Fire, which has burned over 35,000 acres in Santa Rosa, California, 9-year old Izzy miraculously survived the ordeal unharmed and with her tail still wagging.

So happy for Izzy to be reunited. Fast moving fires spare no one so dont judge this family. Another family lost their teen son who was fleeing the fire with his family. separation happens quick, I am so happy for this family to have a happy ending with their fur baby so many people dont know the outcome of their family pets.
