A creative dog lover found a fabulous way to turn drab old dressers and unused end tables into fun, functional, and cozy customized dog beds!

Kaylee Robertson, an emergency medical technician in Shetland, Scotland, wanted to find a way to break away from the boring old dog bed and find a fun, functional way to provide dogs with a safe haven while incorporating them into the main living areas of their home. And so, Sheltie Shacks was born!

“Let’s be honest, your typical dog bed is pretty ugly!” Robertson told ABC News. “They’re normally these limp, dull, lifeless, smelly things that just lie in the corner.

So, with a little elbow grease – each piece of furniture is stripped down to the wood, sanded, and refinished before being reassembled and decorated according to each individual dog’s personality, size, and needs.

In addition to cozy, comfy bedding, each “shack” is lovingly decorated with pillows, wallpaper, artwork on the walls, and even lighting if the pup’s parent requests it!

While she originally set out to design dog beds, Robertson has created beds for all different types of pets.

“I’ve had an order for a bunny in the past!,” she said. “I’m limited to the size of the shack depending on the cabinet I convert from but, honestly, I’ve pretty much provided for every shape of pup so far from Chihuahuas to pugs to border collies! Although, I haven’t yet managed one for a St. Bernard. That’s my dream!”

While Sheltie Shacks are made in Scotland, they can (and have been) shipped worldwide. What’s more, Robertson isn’t in it for the money. All proceeds from the sale of the dog beds goes to charity, including one halfway around the world in New Jersey!

“We also support a wonderful foundation located half way around the world from us – the Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of New Jersey! What can we say? Its very touching to find a location so far away that’s extremely dedicated to our native breed.”
