Last October, 4-year old Helena was adopted by a family that Fulton County Animal Services hoped would give her the life she deserved. Just a few short months later, Helena was returned by her adopter for being “too nice” and wanted to be around them all the time.

Picked up in Atlanta, Georgia as a stray last summer, Helena arrived in poor shape, malnourished and in need of some TLC. But, despite her rough past, the sweet, lovable girl’s personality showed through.

Helena spent a short time at the shelter before being adopted in October by the very person that surrendered her back to the shelter this week.

Because of Helena’s breed and blocky-head, her adopters ignored her sweet, gentle, loving personality and adopted in the hope that she’d be a good guard dog.

“People judge dogs based on their appearances way too often,”LifeLine Animal Project spokesperson Karen Hirsch told TODAY. “You cannot judge a book by its cover!”

“Yes, she really was returned for being too nice,” Hirsch said. “It was obvious the gentleman was looking for a guard/protection dog. He also suggested she be adopted by a woman ‘because they are more into that petting stuff.'”

Now, LifeLine Animal Project are hoping to help Helena find a home that appreciates her snugglebug nature.

“Ideally, we want her to go to a home where she can be smothered in love. And where someone can be the soft side to her Velcro,” Hirsch said.
