CBD has been making substantial headway in terms of an effective alternative for otherwise potentially harmful conventional medications. If you’re one to stay up on the latest trends in holistic wellness, you likely know first hand just how beneficial the powerful herb truly is. Remarkably, the benefits of CBD aren’t only for humans, but for our four-legged friends as well and the advantages are notably comparable. However, with all of the talk surrounding CBD, there is also a bit of uncertainty. What exactly is this powerful herb? Where does it come from and how safe is it really?
Not to worry, in this article we’ll cover all the bases and make sure you’re well informed on the phenomenon that is CBD.
What is CBD
Let’s start with the basics.
CBD is derived from the hemp plant. The hemp plant is a species that falls under the Cannabis L. Sativa “umbrella.” Another species that falls under this umbrella is a marijuana plant. Here’s where a lot of confusion starts. While these two plants share several qualities, they are also quite different.
First off, the hemp plant contains no more than 0.3% THC. THC is the component of the plant that leaves its consumer feeling that “high,” euphoric feeling like we commonly see in movies. However, the tiny traces of THC in the hemp plant are nowhere near the amount needed to experience any psychedelic feelings. In other words, your dog will not get high from CBD products.
Additionally, hemp CBD has proven to be incredibly safe for your pup whereas products derived from the marijuana plant are not. Therefore, always ensure that the CBD you purchase for Fido is specifically formulated for dogs (aka produced from hemp).
When CBD is derived from the hemp plant, it is in liquid form. The CBD oil is then either packaged in tincture form or is used to make treats geared to promote overall wellness as well as target specific ailments.

The results of CBD are truly incredible. Take a look at all of the ways your beloved furry companion can benefit from CBD.
CBD oil for dogs aids in providing relief for:
- Anxiety disorders (anxiety associated with travel, separation anxiety, etc.)

- Pain (chronic and acute)
- Epilepsy and seizure disorders
- Chronic inflammation & autoimmune disease
- Supports heart health
- Reduces the development and spreading of cancer cells
- Decreases nausea and side effects of conventional medications

Furthermore, CBD not only helps relieve the dog of present ailments, but also acts as a preventative. Therefore, many pet owners may use CBD to relieve pain and not even realize that they are also preventing inflammation simultaneously.
Not All CBD is Created Equal
It’s important to recognize that there are pros and cons associated with the rise in popularity of CBD.
The good news is that the products are now readily available. A quick Google search will show a plethora of options that can be purchased which is quite different than what was available five years ago. The not so great news is that not all CBD is created equally. Some companies are manufacturing products with only small traces of CBD, yet they are marketing the products as CBD oil and CBD treats. Without the appropriate amount of CBD, your dog won’t be able to reap all of the benefits that the herb as to offer.
Luckily, there are certain things you can look for. First of all, ask to view the Certificate of Analysis to ensure the amount of CBD in the product. Next, make sure that the product is all-natural, doesn’t contain soy, and is non-GMO. Once you find a great, reputable company, you’ll be blown away by the changes you see in your pup.
CBD Oil Tinctures
Pet parents can integrate CBD into their dog’s life with CBD oil. The CBD oil comes in tincture form with an easy-to-use dropper. The dropper is a great feature because it allows you to have complete control over how much CBD your dog receives.

CBD works wonderfully for the anxiety a lot of dogs get around the 4th of July when everyone is shooting off fireworks. I used it with my dog last year and we had no problems at all, it was wonderful.

Great post, especially important about sourcing – some companies whitelabel and you can get something totally different every time you order.
We recently started using CBD dog products for anxiety, and there’s a marked change in my dog’s mood about 30 minutes after she has it. I tried it on Halloween night, which was perfect because the doorbell drives her nuts. I always use it along with training, because it’s not a “cure” for anxiety on its own, you really have to create positive experiences and teach your dog how you want her to react. CBD oil calms them to get them to that place in mind where they are able to learn… that’s when you teach!
