When a kind-hearted marathon runner spotted a lost puppy just 7-miles into a race, she picked up the tiny pup and carried him 19 more miles to the finish line.
Marathon runner Khemjira Klongsanun must have been dog-tired by the time she reached the finish line at the end of a 26-mile marathon in Ratchaburi, Thailand.
Just 7-miles into the race, the athlete noticed other runners dodging a tiny pup trembling roadside. She kneeled down to check that the puppy was ok and, noticing there were no houses, other dogs, or people around, determined the little guy had been abandoned or somehow become lost.
Concerned for his safety, she picked up the lost pup and cradled him in her arms for the remaining 19-miles of the marathon, where they crossed the finish line together.
The marathon runner took the puppy home where she lives with two other dogs, and began searching for his owner. Over time, no one stepped forward to claim the tiny pup, so Klongsanun made him a part of her family.
She adopted the dog, believed to be just a couple of months old, and named him Chombueng, after the marathon race where she first met him.
“Running almost 20 miles carrying dog was truly a challenge. It was two times tiring than a normal marathon but I did it anyway just because he is adorable,” Klongsanun told reporters. “It took a lot of time to take the new dog for checkups, vaccinations, and treatments but I’m glad to save him and willing to have him with other dog members in the family.”
The runner said Chombueng is a very smart boy and will be very happy with his new family.
