Chella Phillips created “The Voiceless Dogs of Nassau, Bahamas” in 2013 in an effort to give hope to the thousands of stray, sick, injured, and homeless dogs of Nassau.

With one of the strongest storms in recorded history bearing down on her small island home, Phillips didn’t hesitate to give refuge to nearly 100 dogs that would certainly have perished if left to fend for themselves in 200 mile an hour winds and storm surge flooding that has swallowed entire neighborhoods.

On Sunday, Phillips welcomed 97 dogs into her home. She chronicled the events to followers on Facebook.

The dogs, mostly larger animals weighing more than 50-pounds each, found shelter in every available space in Phillips’ home. Luckily, she says, the dogs all got along well.

“For all the ones asking…yes…everyone here gets along and welcome the newcomers with tail wags cause they know they are their brothers and sisters in suffering on the streets. They are not like the selfish humans that mistreated and abused them or simply passed them by and let them to die on the streets,” she posted.

Still, Chella’s heart was broken thinking of the many more she couldn’t help.

“Each of my babies deserve to have loving homes, so please, I am begging for rescues to help them!! My heart is breaking that I left so many on the streets cause I had no more room to bring them.. Please.. Please!!”

After more than 24-hours of torrential rains and hurricane force winds, Dorian finally began weakening and turning away from the small island. Thanks to Chella Phillips, all 97 dogs survived, though their sanctuary suffered flooding and damage and essential supplies, like food, are critically low.

Just remember how special you are. God Bless You. I will be praying for you and the dogs and hopefully the hurricane will slow down.
