It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share old memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own.

For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their third Christmas behind bars.

It’s our Christmas wish that every dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.

We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas. The Dogington Post along with our friends at Wellness Natural Pet Food have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!

Meet Ivy!

12 Dogs Of Christmas

There’s no poison with this Ivy! She is a gentle girl who loves to relax. While Ivy does like to go for walks, she will also get lazy and quit walking. As our volunteers can attest, she’s a real chunk of change to pick up and carry! Fortunately, Ivy doesn’t mind getting picked up, as she LOVES to be cuddled. (Spoiler alert, she thinks she is a lap dog!) If you are in the mood to Netflix, Ivy is ready to snuggle up on the couch with you. If you need to run some errands, she’s ready to roll. If you say “It’s spa day!”, Ivy will happily receive her bath & towel off. Because she considers herself to be the baby of the family, Ivy would appreciate a home without cats or small children. So if you are ready for a new fur child at home, Ivy is ready & waiting for you! Current weight: 63 pounds

Ivy’s adoption fee has been waived—we just want her to finally find the perfect family!

Name of Shelter or Rescue Organization: Best Friends in Atlanta

How long at shelter/rescue: Almost 1 year

Type/Size/Sex: Pit bull mix, large (63 lbs), female

Ivy’s Story: Like many of our dogs in Atlanta, Ivy was pulled from LifeLine’s Fulton County Animal Services. This is a local county shelter and one of Best Friends’ Network Partner organizations.

Special considerations: Ivy is housed with other dogs at our center and does well with large dogs, but can’t live with cats or small dogs.

Ivy’s Perfect Family: Ivy would do best in a home without small children, but older kids (over 12) are just fine. She doesn’t need a ton of activity, but would love a leisurely stroll and some play time.

12 Dogs Of Christmas

The Wellness Foundation was started to make the world a better place for all pets.

A big part of that involves a partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, a leading animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters.

As the Official Pet Food Partner of Best Friends, Wellness is proud to provide natural pet food for the animals they rescue, so they have access to the healthiest nutrition possible.

We are also committed to helping the pets at Best Friends find forever homes. And when they do, we want their first meal to be from us, so we send their new families home with free Wellness pet food. Because pets deserve nothing less than the most nutrient-dense goodness in every bowl, starting with the first one.

Plus, if you adopt one of our “12 Dogs of Christmas,” they’ll send a PAWsome gift basket filled with Wellness Natural food and treats for your newest furry family member, too!
