Valentine’s Day Treat Recipes For Your Dog

Cinnamon Honey Hearts Dog Biscuits

A touch of honey and cinnamon add just the right blend of sweet and spice to this gourmet dog treat.

Cinnamon Honey Hearts

1/4 Cup Water
1/4 Cup pureed Banana
1/2 Cup plain Yogurt
1 Tablespoon Honey
1 Tablespoon Canola Oil
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 Cup Oat Flour
1/4 Cup Rice Flour
1 Cup Wheat Flour

Instructions:

In a small bowl combine the cinnamon, oat flour, rice flour, and 1/2 cup wheat flour. Set aside. In a separate bowl mix water, banana, yogurt, honey, and canola oil with an electric mixer. Add the dry ingredients and mix until well blended. Mix in remaining wheat flour 1/4 cup at a time until a stiff dough forms.

Place on floured surface and roll to desired thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Bake at 300 degrees. If rolled to 3/8″ baking time is 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Tip: After shutting off the oven I leave the dog biscuits in the oven for a couple hours to make sure they are completely dry and crunchy. Then they can be stored for a long time with out worrying about spoilage.

Carob Doggie Delights

Making homemade dog treats is a fun way to let your canine companions know they are your special valentines.

Carob Doggie Delights

1 1/2 Cups Wheat Flour
1/2 Cup Rolled Oats
1/4 Cup Carob Powder
1 Tablespoon ground Flax Seed (Optional)
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1 Egg
1/2 Cup Water
1 Tablespoon Honey

Instructions:

In a small bowl combine the wheat flour, rolled oats, carob, flax seed, and baking powder. Set aside. In a separate bowl beat together the egg, water, and honey. Add the dry ingredients and mix until well blended and forms a stiff dough.

Place on floured surface and roll to desired thickness. Cut into heart shapes. Bake at 300 degrees. If rolled to 3/8″ baking time is 30 minutes to 35 minutes.

Tip: Make these valentine dog treats something really special by drizzling with carob. Melt carob chips in the microwave or double boiler and drizzle over treats.

All I can say is I believe all animals are gifts from God. They bring such comfort. They never complain about anything. They are loyal and will always be at your side.
Our last dog was a cocker spaniel/poodle mix. My husband and Buddy always went for walks every day. His mother was very ill with heart troubles and when we would go over to her place and all you had to say is “Buddy you watch over grandma and don’t let her do too much.” Buddy would go and lay right beside her and whenever she would move, he would. When he thought she had done enough he would go and sit in front of her chair and not let her move. Sadly Buddy got heart troubles too and what they took off the market for humans they kept on the market for dogs. Buddy’s last night with us was heartfelt; he woke us up to let him out. He got down to the end of the block to turn to go to grandma’s but couldn’t go any farther. My husband carried him back home. We lost him a short while later.
I firmly believe in my heart we will be reunited again some day with all of our loved ones. As hard as it is to lose an animal I keep going out to get another. My husband says I have a lot of love to give.
