A 2-year old family dog that went missing after being ejected during a car crash was found two days later—herding sheep on a stranger’s farm!
The Oswald family, along with their 2-year old Border Collie mix, Tilly, were driving on Sunday when they were struck by another car. In the accident, Tilly was ejected from the rear of the GMC Yukon and took off running.
Unable to locate Tilly after about 10-hours of searching, the Oswalds and Idaho State Police took to social media in hopes of finding the lost dog. A Facebook post about the missing dog was shared more than 3,000 times by hopeful dog lovers hoping to reunite the heartbroken family.
Meanwhile, a grandmother in Southern California saw the Facebook post and sent it to her grandsons who operate the Potter Family farm near where the crash occurred.
Two days after Tilly went missing, the Potters noticed their dog behaving strangely. Upon closer inspection, the men noticed it wasn’t their dog. In fact, it was Tilly, the missing dog they’d heard about on Facebook. And he was in the pasture herding the sheep.
Though he’d never worked on a farm in his life, the 2-year old Border Collie mix apparently just started doing what his ancestors were bred to do—herd sheep! That’s pretty typical behavior of Tilly, his owner Linda Oswald told The Spokesman-Review. “He’ll herd anything. When I go to the dog park, he tries to herd the people into one group.”
Today, Tilly is back at home, happy and healthy, catching up on some much needed rest.
