A dog that interrupted the soccer match at The Liga de Expansión MX on Thursday September 28, got adopted by the winning team.

During a soccer match between Alebrijes Oaxaca and Dorados, the dog invaded the pitch to join the game and steal the ball (and the show!) from the players.

In a viral video that has since been re-uploaded to Instagram and has garnered almost 70,000 likes, you can see the soccer players, staff, and security joining forces to try and catch the dog.

But the dog was unstoppable! It was able to evade everyone trying to catch it, all while having the ball in its mouth.

You can even hear the crowd, obviously enjoying the interruption, cheering for the dog while the chase was ongoing.

The chase for the playful pooch went on for a few minutes. And only ended when one of the players managed to successfully catch the dog.

The video, with the caption “This good boi stole the football during a Mexican second division match and caused complete chaos on the field”, drew laughter from many users online.

One user wrote, “The defense didn’t stand a chance against him.” While another quipped “Unacceptable!! Doggo definitely deserved a yellow card and belly rubs for that foul.”

But the amusing story doesn’t end there! Right after Alebrijes Oaxaca won the soccer match, they posted a photo of the pooch on X (previously Twitter) and revealed that they adopted the adorable and playful dog.

“Our new best friend is doing well with us in #TemploAlebrije after debuting in @LeagueMXExpansion,” the team’s official X account wrote.

And on Thursday, October 12, Alebrijes Oaxaca officially introduced the pooch, who they named Max, as the team’s newest substitute player.

The team posted photos of the pooch wearing his official uniform while playing, and photos with the team.

“Welcome Max! This Thursday, we officially introduce Max, our new Alebrijes substitute player. He had his first few minutes during the game with Dorados after leaving home. But he is already with his family and ready to be part of our team.”

Welcome to the Alebrijes Oaxaca team, Max! We wish you a successful soccer career!
