Bobi, the world’s oldest living dog and the oldest dog in history, has passed away at the age 31 years and 165 days on Saturday, October 21.
Bobi’s death was announced by veterinarian and author, Dr. Karen Becker, on Sunday, October 2022 on Facebook.
Dr. Becker, wrote, “Last night, this sweet boy earned his wings 
.” along with photos of Bobi with his owner, Leonel Costa.
“Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough, for those who loved him,” Dr. Becker continued.
When Dr. Becker asked Leonel the secret recipe behind Bobi’s exceptionally long life, he said, “Good nutrition, constant contact with nature, freedom to discover his environment, consistent veterinary care, and love. Bobi knows he’s deeply loved.”
Furthermore, Leonel shared with the Guinness World Records that Bobi was never tied up, chained nor leashed his whole life.
Bobi was not the only old-aged dog Leonel owned. Leonel revealed that Bobi’s mother, Gira, lived to be 18, and another one of his dogs, Chicote, lived up till the age of 22.
Leonel further revealed that Bobi was the “last of a long generation of animals” in the Costa family.
Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo from Portugal, was named by the Guinness World Record as the “World’s Oldest Living Dog” on February of this year, beating the previous Guinness World Record title-holder, a 23-year-old Chihuahua named Spike.
Not only that, Bobi is also confirmed to be the first dog ever to live until the age of 30, outliving the previous oldest dog ever, an Australian Cattle Dog named Blue, who died in 1939 at the age of 29 years and five months.
Bobi was born on May 11, 1992 and his birthdate was confirmed by the Serviço Medico-Veterinário do Município de Leiria (Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria).
His age was also verified by a pet database authorized by the Portuguese government and managed by Portugal’s National Union of Veterinary Doctors.
When Bobi was awarded with his Guinness World Record back in February, Leonel called Bobi “one of a kind” for the exceptional life he lived.
