Recall

One lot (#22853) of Viva Duck for Dogs (Ground), Viva Duck for Dogs (Chunked), Viva Duck for Cats, and Viva Pure Duck (for cats and dogs) has been recalled due to potential contamination of Salmonella and Listeria Monocytogenes.

According to Viva, the recalled products were shipped to 1,500+ customers and the recall happened in response to one customer complaining to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about this specific lot.

In a statement, Viva wrote, “The FDA then collected a sample from the consumer’s home for testing.”

After receiving the complaint, Viva retested a retention sample from the recalled lot with an accredited 3d party laboratory. They said they have decided to continue monitoring the situation after reviewing the test results of the sample and seeing no additional complaints from the other 1500+ consumers.

Viva started shipping the lot out on October 24, 2023, with the last ship out happening on December 06, 2023.

And according to them, no other products other than the abovementioned duck food recipes are affected by this recall.

To address this issue, Viva shared, “We have already conducted a detailed root-cause analysis in our USDA facility to ensure we continue to exceed the highest industry food safety standards & are committed to continuing to push the boundaries for how safe, fresh pet food is made.”

Thankfully, there are no reports on illness in both humans and pets.

Viva had sent a direct notice to its consumers’ email regarding the recall and a few instructions on how to properly handle the products.

It told its customers to check the lot code printed on the side of the product package that says Lot #22853, take a photo of the remaining product, and fill out the response form sent to their email.

Afterwards, costumers were instructed to safely dispose the recalled product, so that no other human or animal can access it. The company also tells its customers NOT to sell or donate the products.

For any other questions or concerns, please email [email protected] or call/text the Viva team at 919-371-8882, from Monday to Friday at 9:00 AM-5:00 PM EST.
