An Alabama homeowner is alive and well today, thanks to the heroic actions of his friend’s dog.

When Danny the dog sensed that something was wrong in the middle of the night, he pulled down homeowner, Justin Fast’s blanket and licked his face until the man awoke. He looked out his bedroom window to find the outdoor shed, just feet from his bedroom, completely engulfed in flames.

Justin grabbed Danny and the two escaped, unharmed. Within just minutes, the rest of Justin’s home was on fire.

He told WFSA NBC News, “That shed caught the backside of the house and then my whole house was engulfed.”

But, thanks to the persistence of one well-meaning hero dog, Justin is alive to rebuild.
