In a shocking story out of Rome, Georgia, a sweet, loving, and very handsome 1-year old mixed breed pup was in critical care Sunday after a neighbor apparently slit the dog’s throat to stop him from barking.
Today, the dog – appropriately named Braveheart – is recovering amazingly, especially considering what the poor dog endured.
According to CBS Atlanta,
“The trachea was exposed and all the other structures were exposed. Luckily, there was no damage to any of them, which is why he was able to live.”
Braveheart underwent surgery Wednesday morning. Thursday night, he was doing great and even jumping for a squeaky toy. He was also enjoying licking people.
His caregivers aren’t certain whether Braveheart will ever bark again, but he is making wimpering sounds. The Animal Rescue League of Northwest Georgia is having trouble finding a law enforcement agency that will investigate the case, and are offering a $1500 reward for any information about Braveheart’s attack that can lead to an arrest.

I was raised in Rome, Ga. It was, is, and barring some sort of cultural incursion on its greasy, self-satisfied, socially-stratified, superstitious core, always will be one of the most depraved towns in the country. It’s the place where a few years ago an eager-to-please DA exultantly destroyed the life of a Vandy-bound black Rome High scholar-athlete when it was discovered that he had been consensually in flagrante delicto with a 15-year-old white girl. Back in 1962, on the side of the main drag into town there was a sign that read, “The Imperial Knights of the KKK Welcome you to Rome, Georgia.” If you shared with me the misfortune of residence back when the Chow Time drive-in diner was a favored haunt of local delinquents, you know that the Chow Time stood for everything Rome represents: oleaginous food poisoning for the soul. Don’t be surprised if the monstrosity of cutting a dog’s throat is attended by a swell of approval from a goodly number of that depraved little burg’s inhabitants.

“It means there’s a dangerous lunatic living close by”
This was in Rome, GA, so that’s kind of a given…. So you don’t need to wonder why they can’t find a law enforcement agency to investigate.

I’m a proud pittie mom myself, and I foster/rescue. I do love my dogs and want to see justice done for this baby. But I can’t help but to think that this whole sad situation could (And Should)have been avoided by not leaving the poor dog out to become a barking nuisance to begin with. I know first hand at how miserable it is to have thoughtless, rude neighbors who just leave their dogs outside to bark all day and night!
I sincerely hope and pray that NEITHER party EVER owns animals again!

This dog was left out on a runner all day long. yes he barked.. upon investigation i have learned that the home he was in doesnt have any direct neighbors that would be able to hear the dog barking….so the plot thickens…please search for justice for braveheart on facebook. everything you need to know is on his page. i update it everyday

Sometimes I have no problem with eye-for-an-eye; I hope person is caught and someone slits his throat! And shame on the so called law enforcement agencies that can’t be bothered investigating this awful crime.

The perpetrator WILL meet his Creator one day and have to answer for his sick actions, as will any law enforcement with the ‘boys will be boys’ mentality!
Also somewhat culpable here is the dog’s owner with the unrestrained, uncorrectable barking. This MAY indicate negligence in the area of obedience or a life of such unmitigated boredom that barking is the sole release of frustration. It takes action of some kind to neutralize frustrated dogs plus frustrated neighbors. Better had it come from the dog’s owner.

They are having trouble finding law enforcement to investigate the case??? So the lazy back woods Rome police won’t get off their asses and investigate an actual crime?? I hope the the neighbor is held responsible and that the owners are not allowed to have him back unless they agree to not put him in a position where anything like that can happen again…..like in the house with them!

What kind of Law Enforcement Agency would NOT investigate this? It has been proven, animal abusers graduate to humans. There is an unknown psychopath running around out there, and the police don’t care????? I am very glad Braveheart will be alright, but this person needs to be caught!

Well it has got to be someone the animal knows. For them to be able to walk up to the pup and do what they did. I do hope they catch them and give them the same treatment.

When the person that is responsible for this is caught he deseves a beating with a board, water boarding and put in prison with the bad boys for life.
