Yesterday, 16-year old Gabrielle Douglas became the first African-American to win the all-around Olympic gold medal in women’s gymnastics, in an amazing show of talent, skill, and artistic flair. So what’s next for America’s newest champion?
She wants to get home and see her dogs!
Two years ago, at age 14, Gabby left her Virginia Beach home and headed to West Des Moines, Iowa, to train for her Olympic career. She had to leave behind the comforts of home – including the two dogs she shared her bed with – in order to reach her ultimate goal.
The champion told US Weekly, “I just want to see my dogs!”
We’re certain Gabby Douglas’ dogs will be head-over-tails to see her too!
In the video below, watch Gabby’s amazing journey to superstardom – plus, see the amazing smile that’s captivated the world.
Congratulations Gabby! You truly are an American hero!
