Derek Hough, the 27-year old Dancing with the Stars professional dancer (and fan favorite!) has brought home the greatest prize possible. No, it’s not the DWTS trophy – it’s the love of a rescue dog, of course!

A fan spotted Derek Hough outside of the adoption center where he found his sweet (and smart!) rescue dog and shared this photo on Facebook.

A dog lover and supporter of rescue and adoption, Hough fostered the smart and sweet mixed breed pup, named Romeo, from a nearby adoption center. But, it didn’t take long for the pair to fall in love!

Derek brought Romeo home on August 7, and just moments later Tweeted, “Took him for a run not sure I want to give him back …he’s sooo beautiful, honey!”

Just three days later, Derek’s mind was made to keep the adorable rescue. He told fans,

“I feel so lucky . This dog is incredible . Everything I’ve taught him he’s applied within two days … Genius animal !! Wrestle, sit , stay , Paw Shake … Now just have to work on him not dropping a duces downstairs .. Ha”

We’re so happy Derek Hough found his four-legged match – and that he’s keeping a great attitude about the not-so-fun parts of puppy parenting! And, fellow DWTS alum, Mark Ballas has already helped with the dogsitting!

As for the dog’s name, Hough says, “Also , changing Romeos name . Not sure what to yet . But I just call him ‘ EyBoi’ right now . He seems to respond.”

Derek also loves how his new buddy wakes him up at the crack of dawn each morning Tweeting, “he jumps on me like a kid on Christmas morning . Love it.”

So what’s next for Derek Hough and his rescue dog? Dancing perhaps!
