Beloved Dog Gave His Own Life To Save Baby From House Fire The Dogington Post

A beloved, heroic family dog sacrificed his own life to save his 8-month old human family member from a fire that destroyed their home.

Erika Poremski, the baby’s mother, told reporters she had just stepped outside to her car when she turned around to find the house engulfed in flames with her 8-month old daughter, Viviana inside.

“I just heard her crying and I couldn’t get to her,” Poremski said. “I tried really hard, everyone in the neighborhood tried. They were kicking the doors in and kicking the windows out. I couldn’t (get her out). Nobody could.”

Poremski suffered burns to her hands and face from repeatedly trying to go back into the house to rescue her young daughter trapped inside. When firefighters entered the home to rescue her, they found the family’s dog, Polo, in the room with her, covering her with his body.

“She only had burns on her side because of it,” Poremski said. “He stayed with her the whole time in the bedroom and wouldn’t even come downstairs to get out the door.”

Paramedics revived Viviana, who has severe burns on her face, arm and side. Tragically, Polo did not survive the fire. The heroic family dog had given his own life to save hers.

“He was my first baby and now I lost him,” Poremski said. “And I’m just praying I don’t lose her. She’s all I have and it just happened so fast, I just don’t understand it. I just don’t know why this stuff happens.”

While Viviana is still in serious condition, she is expected to recover with time and medical care. Healing the emotional wounds from the loss of heroic Polo may take even longer.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
