A California police officer is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the leg while trying to fire his gun at a pit bull that he says was threatening his life. But, when a local television station arrived on scene, they found a much smaller dog than described, peacefully playing with children.
The officer was serving an eviction notice around 2:00pm last Wednesday when he says a “large dog came at him aggressively.”
However, the dog’s owner and this video tells a different story…
The officer was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries as a result of shooting himself. The dog was not shot or harmed. Animal Control Services did not take the dog, named Precious, into custody as it was determined that neither she or her owner did anything wrong.

Serves that total dickhead right! The dog did nothing wrong, he deserved to have been shot for what he tried to do to that poor dog. Pit Bulls are NOT nasty dogs AT ALL. Their temperament depends far more on their upbringing than the breed.

I think they should get these gun-happy police off the street and give them a desk job. Some of the sweetest, gentlest dogs I’ve ever know have been pit bulls. Maybe if the police officer had a brain he would have checked with the owner of the house before going charging through their back garden. The dog was only protecting his property.

Pit bull owners have deviant minds. I don’t associate with them. Trash.

Hopefully the police officer is alright and the next officer will find his mark.

You are a moron, just like the cop. The dog did nothing wrong. I think we need to shot people who punish others without just cause. I say this is justice served.

It is unfortunate that so many people hate pits because they are simply either ignorant or just so stupid they believe everything the media blathers at them.

My pits are kept inside or in the back yard within an 8 foot privacy fence, electric wires, and kennels. If someone comes onto my property shooting my dogs I consider them shooting at family. I don’t care if it is a cop – I am shooting back and shooting to kill.

I’m so tired of people trying to blame pit bulls for everything people are the problem not pit bulls
Ann

Sadly, animals are abused all over the place and bad people are everywhere. How is it that bad people use pit bulls to dog fight but not golden retrievers?

Agree 100%. People are blaming the wrong end of the leash…

The officer had every right to go onto the property. He was serving an eviction notice! It also makes sense that he shot a barking pit bull running towards him. What would you do? Drop to your knees and say, “Oh, come here schmoopie and give me a big wet kiss!” When was the last time you read about a beagle mauling and killing someone? It’s almost always a bull who attacks, mauls and kills. Give me a break. All of you should be ashamed of yourselves for laughing that a police officer was hurt just for doing his job.

You’re an idiot. Don’t most dogs bark and run towards people. If he can’t handle a dog, how will he handle a 200+ lb inebriated man? seriously, you’re a silly person.
Ann
Apr 22, 2014 at 12:07 pm
No Matt, you are the idiot. My point was the officer probably wouldn’t have shot a barking beagle running towards him. To further prove you are an idiot, you compared a 200 pound drunk to a pit bull. When was the last time you heard about a 200 pound drunk guy attacking a jogger unprovoked or mauling a small child?

No Ann,
You’re just wrong.
Go home, you’re drunk.

And you Phil are living in la la land. You should adopt a pit bull. I hear they make great pets. Bye.

I agree completly with Matt. My grand daughter’s best friend is a pit bull named Tesla whp’s afraid of bubble wrap!

I understand the officer was scared of the dog because a lot of people are scared of dogs or so-called “aggressive” breeds. However, you’re clearly believing the (incorrect) propaganda surrounding pit bulls and k-9 aggression. It is unfair to callously label a certain breed as “aggressive”. Larger dog breeds just happen to have more potential to cause damage than small breeds. Most incidents involving dogs stem from improper training and harsh ownership. PEOPLE train dogs to be aggressive. They are not like that by nature. And to answer your question about why pit bulls vs. golden retrievers…. goldens don’t have the right body type for dog fighting, nor do they look intimidating. There are plenty of little, tiny dogs that bite people and are extremely aggressive, but people just aren’t afraid of them because they’re small.. The reason you hear about large breed dogs biting so much more often than small dogs is because those are the incidents that people actually report. That doesn’t mean small dogs don’t bite. Oh, and I don’t know where you live, but I’ve heard of plenty of cases of grown men mauling small children. It’s called physical child abuse.

Apr 22, 2014 at 2:15 pm
You’re being sarcastic about pit bulls being great pets, but they actually are one of the friendliest, happiest breeds by nature. Check your facts before you comment.
Melly
Apr 22, 2014 at 5:29 pm
And attacking a jogger unprovoked? Ha. As a small female, I assure you that I am far more afraid of 200-pound men when I’m jogging alone than I am of pit bulls! Or I would be afraid, if I didn’t have my pit bull jogging buddy with me.
Courtney
Apr 26, 2014 at 2:52 am
Actually, Ann, I’d have to say you’re the idiot here. Pitbulls do make great pets, my sister has one. She’s actually friendlier than my Australian Shepherd, which are supposed to be great family dogs. He actually does bark and run towards people, so Matt makes a great point. You also probably shouldn’t go into the whole “drunk vs. pitbull” debate, because I can assure you there are probably way more statistics to prove that drunks are far more dangerous than pitbulls. I’d like to see you stand up to an extremely aggressive drunk, especially one within reaching distance of a weapon of some sort. Bet you’ll change your mind pretty quickly.

Courtney, you are so correct! I volunteer with a rescue and normally have several dogs out of my house with my foster dogs and fofster failures. Out of the foster failures, two are beautiful Pit Bulls and I have to say with one of my Pits being 115 lbs and the other 75 lbs, you should be more afraid of my Yorkie that is 3 lbs. And Melly, you are so right also! I don’t think that there is a safer feeling than walking my Pits around the lake! Not much makes me feel safer! So sad that some people do not truely take the time to educate themselves.

You’re ignorance and blind prejudice against an entire breed is just sad. Maybe one day you’ll learn not to stereotype and judge an entire breed(or race, because let’s face it, you’re probably racist too if you follow stereo types) just because there are some bad ones out there

The dog was doing his job. The officer needs to be Fired, retrained or some psych counseling he definitely has some fear issues. What if he would have shot one of those kids?
The dog did nothing wrong and we can all see how vicious Precious is running around with the kids all over her.
Stephanie
Apr 22, 2014 at 3:15 pm
Please watch the video or read the story, the dog was NOT running up on the officer. What if the officer had shot one of those kids that was in the yard instead of himself? He’s a danger to everyone and should be fired or off the streets.

Apr 22, 2014 at 7:26 pm
Ann, I think the bigger problem is you defending a police officer who accidentally shoots himself in the line of duty. What? A bank robber? Let me shoot myself! What? A car jacking? Let me shoot myself!
Trying to defend pit bull mixed breed dogs with high knowledge people like you is like trying to nail jello to a tree.
Deb Woodley
Apr 23, 2014 at 9:56 pm
Maybe the cowardly jerk will think twice before pulling his gun unnecessarily the next time! You would probably still be defending him if he had accidentally shot one of the children… People like you make me sick. You automatically defend someone in a uniform, no matter how stupid, cruel, inept or just plain WRONG they are! If he is that much of a coward, to “fear for his life” because the family dog is barking at him, how can he effectively do his job as a cop? I certainly wouldn’t want to have to depend on him, lol!!

Not happy that the dumb ass officer shot himself. However, he had NO right going onto someones property for no apparent reason, and No right to shoot at a dog that was simply protecting his property. So basically, he got what he deserved.

He had every right to be on the property. He was serving an eviction notice, which the property owner requested!
Deb Woodley
Apr 23, 2014 at 9:59 pm
Even if he had a legal right to be on the property, how stupid is he, to just walk into a FENCED yard, without checking to see WHY it is fenced? Dumbass. The tenant showed sympathy for him because he was in pain… I think it was a good lesson for him. I’ll save my sympathy for the next little kid whose pet is murdered by some gunhappy dimwit.

Good. I think it is time these police take the time to intelligently ascertain the situation instead of going off half cocked and killing an animal that is not a danger to anyone. it makes me sick. how about carrying a stun gun or anything other than a lethal weapon for our dogs? and teaching cops that all big dogs are not dangerous. it is a knee jerk decision that rarely is merited . I have seen too many videos of innocent dogs being shot by police and there is NO excuse at all for it.

Why do they have to exaggerate when they know it’s a pit. It happened to me the sheriffs came n they peppered sprayed my pit n my boxer. They insist that my boxer is also a pit. my pit didn’t deserve this because he’s very nice, all he does is wag his tail. It didn’t affect my dogs as much as it affected me with the sneezing, coughing, soar throat n emotionally.

I can understand the officer being squard of a pit bull, I have to say, but I have to laugh sooooooo hard for him shooting himself. Sorry I cannot stop laughing. Too many people breed bad characteristics for fighting, or they protect there family, but a trained officer shooting himself? Priceless! Leave this family alone. What a stupid diot!!!! After getting over the initial shock of what this mindless police offer did, I can’t help but laugh at his sheer incompetence. I mean literally laugh lol
Not only did he get what he deserved by shooting himself. He’s made himself a laughing stock, from both those who are for and against.
If only Precious could laugh, she would’ve been doubled up at the antics of this moron.
I just can’t stop laughing. LOL

It is sad when someone legally carries a gun and panics when a
dog – on his own turf – approaches the cop and the cop, obviously
not trained to shoot very well (fortunately for the dog)endangers himself and
other folks in the area by drawing his weapon and fires it!
Then, when the “spokesperson” told the TV Newsperson that the cop
was “attacked” by the dog and had to draw his weapon! BULLSHIT!
The witnesses disputed that statement!!

As soon as the name Pit Bull comes into their minds, they think “Killer”…and that is not true. Some fantastic dogs are Pit Bulls, and some “Killers” are other kinds…just look and believe that Pits are just like any other dog, animal, or person for that matter. If they have been mistreated, they MAY mistreat, but if they have been loved, they WILL love!
