If you guessed Lassie, you’re correct!

The very first Lassie was played in the 1940’s by a Rough Collie named Pal. Because of his large eyes and white patch of fur on his forehead, Pal wasn’t considered “show-worthy” and was sold as a pet-quality dog by his breeder. Pal’s owner took his soon-to-be-famous pooch to Hollywood trainer Rudd Weatherwax (brother of Frank Weatherwax who trained Toto!) to break his habit of barking and chasing motorcycles. Pal’s owner wasn’t satisfied with the training he received and gave the handsome dog to Weatherwax instead of paying his training bill.

Fun Fact: Although the Lassie character was a female, every pup that played the character from 1942 until the latest film in 2005 was a male! Males were used simply because they retain their thick coats, even in the summer.

Now, can you guess who this famous movie dog is?

This famous shaggy dog became the world’s first time traveler on October 26, 1985.
