Controlling an Escape Artist

IF at all possible, all dog owners need to provide an enclosed area in the yard for the dog to safely do their business and play. Install a quality chain link fence with the posts cemented in place, and the bottom of the fence going below ground level. This will discourage the dog from digging under the fence. If the dog has spent an hour digging only to run into more buried fencing he or she will usually cease attempting to break-out this way. If you own a large dog buy fencing tall enough to prevent the dog jumping over.

I have tried all the above and my preferred choice is an electronic invisible fence system. These are reasonably priced, install in a matter of a few hours, and work great. The dog wears a collar that will provide different levels of a small electrical shock if they try to pass over the buried wire. Believe me when I say these systems work, and it only takes once or twice before the dog realizes he does not want to leave the yard.

Curing the escape minded dog is not difficult when you take advantage of the many methods to keep him or her contained.
