When Denise Richards visited the North Shore Animal League in Long Island, New York last weekend, her plan was to raise awareness and talk about disaster relief, but the actress ended up doing a little disaster relief of her own – by adopting a tiny puppy displaced by Hurricane Sandy.

While visiting the shelter, Richards fell in love with Tara, a tiny Black Labrador-Mix puppy and couldn’t leave the precious pup behind.

On their Facebook page, North Shore Animal League said, “Denise Richards visited North Shore Animal League America headquarters yesterday to provide vital help in spreading the word about our disaster relief efforts and encouraging adoptions. During their visit Denise and her family fell in love with Tara the Labrador Mutt-i-gree puppy and welcomed her into their home!”

One of Hollywood’s most active animal advocates, Denise Richards will add Tara to her growing pack of rescue pets. Way to go, Denise!
