A fun-loving pup went for a joyride in his human’s car when he pushed the gear shifter into reverse and spun around a cul-de-sac for nearly an hour!

Residents of a Port St. Lucie, Florida neighborhood had a chuckle Thursday morning when they learned to car being driven in circles around their cul-de-sac was being driven by a dog.

Neighbor Anna Sabol was alarmed when she looked out her window and saw police cars lining her normally quiet street. She laughed when she learned they were responding to a car being driven by her neighbor’s black Labrador.

“I laughed. I thought they should give that dog a license to drive,” Sabol told WPTV. “He was a better driver than a lot of them I’ve seen.”

Police said the dog’s owner briefly stepped out of the car when the dog pushed the shifter into reverse and began nearly an hour long joyride around the cul-de-sac. Officers were able to unlock the car using the keyless entry keypad on the driver’s side door and bring the car ride to an end – but not before the dog took out a neighbor’s mailbox, knocked over a trash can, and rearranged some bricks on another lawn.

“He was doing pretty good until he hit the mailbox. He went around for about an hour without hitting anything at all,” Sabol said.

No one was hurt in the Lab’s hour long drive and the dog seemed pretty pleased with himself when his ride ended.

“I saw the dog jump out of the car, wagging his tail. I was like ‘Okay, good driving!’” Sabol said.
