Dolce & Gabbana launches their newest fragrance – this time, it’s for our four-legged friends! But the RSPCA issues its warning against the use of dog perfumes.

The Italian fashion label’s newest fragrance mist for dogs is said to draw inspiration “from the unwavering love for Domenico Dolce’s loyal companion, Fefé.”

On the Dolce & Gabbana website, Fefé is described to be a “a luxurious alcohol-free mist designed with meticulous care for dogs.”

It is also said to be “a celebration of the cherished bond between pets and their owners, from the essence of ylang ylang to the warm embrace of musk and sandalwood.”

The perfume is crafted by renowned perfumer, Emilie Coppermann, exclusively for Dolce & Gabbana and is priced at €99 ($109) for 100 mL (3.4 oz).

Furthermore, the perfume is housed in a sleek green glass bottle, featuring a red metal cap and a 24-carat gold-plated dog paw. Customers who purchase the new fragrance will receive an exclusive Dolce & Gabbana dog collar and dog tag.

And while Dolce & Gabbana assures dog parents that the perfume is Safe Pet Cosmetics certified, approved by vets, and enjoyed by dogs, RSPCA issues a warning of the use of dog perfumes messing with a dog’s sense of smell.

“Dogs rely on their sense of smell to communicate and interact with their environment as well as the people and other animals within it,” RSPCA senior scientific officer Alice Potter tells The Guardian. “Therefore we advise that strong-scented products such as perfumes or sprays are avoided, especially as some smells can be really unpleasant for dogs.”

Potter adds, “Sometimes dogs can be anthropomorphized and the lines can become blurred between what dogs like and what we, as humans, think they’ll like.”
