Home surveillance video captured a DoorDash delivery driver making a New Year’s Day food delivery—and leaving with the family’s 8-week old puppy.
When Ashley Swinton ordered food through DoorDash to her Warren, Michigan home, she never expected the delivery driver to leave the food and take off with the family’s puppy. Swinton had gifted 8-week old Bella, to her kids just a week earlier on Christmas.
Thankfully, home surveillance cameras were rolling, making it easy to catch the puppy thief shortly after the dognapping.
“This is a new one even for me,” Warren police Det. Brian Price said. “Pretty shocking when you watch the video and see it happen right in front of you.”
“You can see her pet the dog, (and) rub the dog seeing if it was vicious,” Swinton said. “Then scoop the dog up and take the dog to her car.”
Police caught up with the 26-year old unnamed driver who confessed to the theft. Charges are expected to be filed soon.
Bella was found to be in good health and reunited with her family.
