A drug-sniffing K9 working at a Florida port was administered Narcan, a life-saving medication to reverse drug overdose, after he sniffed out drugs on a cruise ship passenger.
Brevard County Sheriff’s Office K9, golden retriever, Jake, was given Narcan after detecting drugs in a suitcase belonging to a passenger about to board the Norwegian Epic cruise ship in Port Canaveral, Florida.
Moments after alerting officers to the luggage, that was later found to contain sedatives, prescription drugs, and illegal drugs including amphetamines and ecstacy, Jake lost motor skills and begin showing seizure-like symptoms. Police immediately administered the life-saving overdose reversal medication.
Brevard County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tod Goodyear said Jake is doing well and will be able to return to his important job very soon.
The passenger was arrested on drug charges.
