At Angela Kumpe’s Arkansas based dog grooming salon, owners can transform their dogs into just about anything they want – though we can’t imagine why you’d want to!
“I can transform dogs into almost anything,” Kumpe has said. “You name it, I can do it.”
And, now she’ll be doing it in front of a camera as part of a new television special premiering on Animal Planet tonight. Clipped! will feature Kumpe and her staff transforming adorable dogs into walking works of art. In the clip below, from tonight’s special, adorable little boy Buggy is transformed into a bumblebee, complete with yellow and black stripes, little wings, and a bejeweled flower on his hip.
Whether Buggy enjoyed the experience or is happy with his new look remains to be seen.
You can catch the premiere of Clipped! tonight on Animal Planet at 10pm EST.

I would ask how long does the animal have to stand on the table ———hours and hours? Also, do the groomers “potty” break and give water to drink? I think probably not. If the answer is “NOT” then it’s cruel.

You cannot do color or creative trims on a dog with no coat, so the dog must be well maintained. These are well cared for pets, not your run of the mill dogs that only get groomed every 6 months, or once a year.
Dogs stand on the table for a normal amount of time, maybe even a little bit more, but of course every dog is given breaks! You think a dog would put up with being on a table for 8 hours? If a dog can run for 2-3 hours, they can surely stand on a table for a couple of hours. For me, I split up the grooming and color over two days so it’s not an all day thing.
Ya know what I think is cruel? That a dog is so infested with fleas that the grooming process that should only take about 1.5 hour, ends up being 3-4 hours because I have to bathe the dog 6 times due to flea infestation and hand pick every flea. Or that the grooming process is painful because I’m dematting tangled hair or peeling off a coat in one big piece of carpet.
I would really consider the word “cruel” before getting upset that a well cared for pet has to “endure” a couple hours of fawning and bonding with the groomer and/or owner.

As stated before, my opinions are PERSONAL and do not reflect anything other than what I personally feel. The tone of your response was rather unnecessary and a little offensive.
I do understand that extreme grooming is supposed to be fun (as stated before) I simply do not agree with it. I am not condemning or slandering anyone who participates in extreme grooming, I simply would never wish to see my dog, or any dog in my care, in such a state.

I think this is abuse. People who are not trained will try this at home, using whatever they can find to simulate this procedure. I am surprised at Animal Planet for condoning this.

I know that extreme grooming is supposed to be “all in good fun” but personally, I disagree with all the dye-jobs and over-trimming. I am of the mind that a dog should look like a dog and should not be used as a landscape or canvas for art…especially when they cannot give consent or refuse.

How about the people that DON’T ever groom their animals, give flea, tick, or heartworm medication? What about the people that breed their animals to death? I’m sure a little cut and color on a well behaved pet won’t be our doom, lol. Plus, if they didn’t want to stand there for it they wouldn’t, I am a creative groomer and I’ve groomed pets that said, ‘No’ they will wiggle and ruin the design or start walking in circles letting you know they are ready to go. A good groomer can tell if a dog wants to stand there, or just be done. Creative grooming isn’t for everyone, but the ones that it is for at least appreciate it enough and understand that it is harmless. I volunteer at 3 local shelters, I have seen torture, abuse, and neglect… Groomers do not work on animals because you make a lot of money, I wish, you do it because of your love and passion to make animals feel and look their best, not to cause anyone duress. 🙂 Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I just thought you could benefit from hearing someone else’s.
