In 2012 and 2021, “Frisbee Rob” Mcleod, and his furry, four-legged teammates, Davy Whippet and Sailor, set the Guinness World Record for the “farthest flying disc throw caught by a dog” and the “farthest mini flying disc throw caught by a dog” respectively.
Other than the above mentioned records with his dog teammates, the inspirational speaker and frisbee ambassador living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada currently holds 12 Guinness World Records.
In the 2024 Edition of the Guinness World Records book, Rob and his incredible talent for throwing and catching frisbees with his four-legged friends didn’t go unnoticed.
The “farthest flying disc throw caught by a dog” record holder earned a spot in the book, along with more than 2,000 mind-blowing achievements from around the world.
Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of the book said, “The 2,638 records featured in the book really are the cream of this year’s crop.”
According to the Guinness World Records, while Rob was still in school, he taught himself how to throw a frisbee in an Edmonton horse pasture. He started by making up games and throwing alone, but a year later, joined a team and has been competing ever since.
“His record-breaking endeavors have been on solid ground, as well as on inline and figure skates. He started figure skating as a toddler and played hockey from grades six to 12, so when he was introduced to throwing on skates by a friend at a frisbee competition in 2010, it came easy to him.”
On October 14, 2012, Rob Mclead, and his then dog teammate Davy, set the record for the “farthest flying disc throw caught by a dog” which was 122.5 meters or 402 ft.
Davy and Rob were a dynamic duo – they broke a tournament record the first day they met and competed together. And they are also the Guinness World Record holder for the longest time for a flying disc to be aloft before being caught by a dog which was 10.59 seconds.
Sadly, Dav passed away in 2018. And that’s when Rob started competing and training with Sailor, a Border Collie-Whippet Cross.
Together, Sailor and Rob set the world record for the “farthest mini flying disc throw caught by a dog” on November 13, 2021 which was 40 meters or 131 ft. 3 in.
In a story by the Bugle Observer in 2021, Rob reveals that he has been competing with Sailor for about three or four years. And that he’s “the guy who throws frisbees for him and the guy to have fun with.”
Davy and Sailor aren’t actually Rob’s dogs. They were introduced to him by his friend and dog trainer Lara.
Speaking to Global News, Rob said it’s “a big honor” to be featured in the Guinness World Records 2024.
Other than Rob, Davy, and Sailor’s paw-mazing records, The 2024 Edition of the Guinness World Records also features other records that shows how incredible and talented our furry friends are.
