While names like Alfie, Charlie, Bella, and Poppy top the list of the UK’s most popular dog names, we’re most tickled by the unusual names people have chosen for their four-legged family members!
Co-op Insurance is the UK’s premier pet insurance provider, offering a variety of coverage options that free pet parents of the worry of costly vet visits, allowing them to concentrate on their pet’s health and happiness instead. Co-op gave us a peek into their database of pet names and some interesting trends have emerged. Check these out:
Maybe you’re a pet parent who’s inspired by sci-fi and television? Co-op insured fans of Harry Potter named their dogs Dumbledore, Hagrid, and (gasp! “he who must not be named”) Voldemort. We’re guessing pups with names like Yoda, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, and Obi Wan have Star Wars fanatics as their human companions!
Other pet parents chose to name their canine companions after their favorite movie stars and pop music celebrities. We saw dogs named Beyoncé, Shakira, Bowie, Dog Dylan, Bieber, and Snoop Dog (of course!).
For those who aren’t fans of the silver screen, pet parents are also looking to their favorite foods for inspiration! Junk food and alcohol-themed dog names are on the rise, evidently, with names like Guinness, Mojito, Martini, Nutella, Oreo, and Krispy Kreme topping the delicious list. We even spotted a cat named Garlic Bread and a dog named Beer! Really!
Some of the names we came across, however, don’t have any inspiration that’s obvious to us. They’re just as wacky as can be – and we can’t get enough of them! Some of our favorites were:
Jazmine Shortcake Balthazard
Galaxy Defender
Jet Velvet Of Bloxwich
Sir Dave Sleep Alot
Winston Churchill Now Carter
