The Renovata family of Somerset, Massachusetts are certainly tossing a few extra treats to their 7-year old family dog, Reina.

Reina alerted her family around 5:00 am last Friday morning that something was wrong.

“I went over and Reina was at the basement door, which she never does, and she was scratching at the door,” Lisa Renovata tol reporters. “That’s when I realized, ‘Oh my God, the basement’s on fire.”

The family, including Lisa and Don Renovata, their 3 children, and the furry family members – 2 other dogs and 3 cats, were all able to escape the home safely. One dog, Molly, was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The Somerset Fire Department credits Reina’s fast action and dedication to her family for helping everyone escape and saving the home from complete destruction.
