A heroic dog saved her human family from a fire that completely destroyed their home, only to turn up missing days later. Now, that very family that she saved are desperately hoping to find her.
“We had a grease fire in the kitchen and my son was asleep in his bedroom,” said Kristall Hays, who was not at her Alma, Arkansas home when the fire broke out.
“Luckily, our dog was out back. She was barking at his bedroom window to try to wake him because she knew something was wrong,” she explained to KFSM.
The family’s dog, Ruby, woke up Kristall’s son, Chris, who made sure everyone escaped safely. Chris took Ruby across the street to a neighbor’s home for safekeeping.
Because their home was a total loss, the family have been displaced and are currently living in a motel while they search for a new place to live. During the transition until the family are back in a home, Ruby was staying with the neighbor.
But, just a few days after saving her family from the devastating fire, Ruby escaped the neighbor’s back yard and is now missing.
Ruby is a mixed breed rescue, about 8-9 months old, the family guesses Labrador and pit bull. She is tall and slender, brindle in color with white toes on each paw and a patch of white on her chin. She is described as very friendly and approachable.
She was last seen in Alma, Arkansas on Harris Drive when a neighbor’s surveillance video captured her escaping the yard earlier this month.
The family are desperate to have her back. “Please, please, if any one knows someone who has her let them know her family misses her, loves her, and wants her back. She is our baby and our hero,” Kristall Hays wrote in a plea on Facebook.

We love and cherish our dogs and cats. It is so hard to lose either when they are part of the family in a big way. I will
keep Ruby in my thought's and prayers that you and yours will see her again.
