Make way Bisbee! There’s a new and longer licker in town! Because Zoey, a Labrador-German Shepherd mix from Metairie, Louisiana, has now broken the “longest tongue on a living dog” world record.

Zoey’s tongue is 12.7cm or 5 inches long, which is about 3cm (1.2 inches) longer than Bisbee’s, the previous record holder, tongue.

According to owners Sadie and Drew Williams, Zoey’s tongue used to stick out of her mouth when she was a pup.

Sadie said, “We got Zoey when she was only six weeks old and in the first ever picture we have of her, she has her tongue sticking out.”

The couple thought that Zoey would eventually grow out of it. But obviously, the beautiful Zoey didn’t outgrow this and now has a licker that is longer than a soda can!

Drew said that the three-year-old’s tongue was most obvious when she’s panting after a good play session. “So sometime last year we took her to the vet and measured her tongue,” said Drew.

According to the Guinness World Records, Zoey’s favorite pastimes include being outdoors, fetching balls, chasing squirrels, car rides and swimming in the canals.

And according to Zoey’s owners, naturally, one of her favorite activities is showing off her extra-loooong tongue.

Drew reveals that people will come up to them and want to pet her while they’re taking Zoey on a walk.

“We’ll warn them ahead of time ‘Hey, she’s friendly but she might slobber on you’ and every now and then she will, and they’ll have a big slobber mark on their black pants,” said Drew.

Zoey’s record-breaking tongue came after Bisbee, an English Setter from Tucson, Arizona, broke the record with her 9.49 cm (3.74 inches) tongue.
