When a Welsh man living in China took his dog to the groomer, a language barrier between dog owner and stylist led to a hilarious haircut for the adorable German shepherd mix pup.
Leigh Simmons, 27, and wife Kat, have been living in Shenzhen, China, where Leigh works as a teacher, for the past 7 months.
Months ago, Leigh and his wife found a young German Shepherd mix puppy wandering the streets as a stray and decided to give the cutie a loving home.
Because the weather is warming in Shenzhen, the couple decided a summer haircut was in order. Leigh took the pup, named Seren, to a local groomer for a trim. Unfortunately, Leigh speaks little Mandarin and the groomer spoke not a word of English.
“The woman spoke no English and I speak very, very little Chinese. I ended up miming shaving the dog and I made a ‘bzzz’ sound. The woman nodded and told me to come back at 4.” Simmons explained to the Wales News Service.
When he returned later that day, he was shocked to find Seren shaved nearly bald, with a fluffy mane, poofy paws, and a sprig of fluff at the end of his tail.
“I came back and saw the dog and just started laughing hysterically. I could barely stand up, I was laughing so much.”
Here’s Seren sporting his new hilarious haircut:
“The poor women working there were so confused. They looked embarrassed, like they were worried I wasn’t going to pay them. But I did. It cost me roughly £10 (around $13 US).”
With a great sense of humor about the entire ordeal, Simmons explained that Poodles are very popular in China and lots of them are shaved in this style.
Well, looks like Seren will stay nice and cool all summer long while his fur grows back in! And, it’s a safe bet Leigh will learn at least enough Mandarin to accurately describe the cut he’s looking for in time for Seren’s next groom!
